On this Säckpipa (Swedish bagpipes) course you will learn bagpipe friendly tunes, from all over Sweden but in particular from the instrument’s “home” – western Dalarna. We will also discuss various playing techniques, fingering styles, ornamentation, tuning, and other tips and tricks to get the most out of your instrument.

The course assumes that you bring your own instrument, in the key of E/A and in good working order.

This course runs alongside our Spring Nyckelharpa weekend.

Who’s it For?

The weekend is for both players of the Swedish säckpipa and also players of other instruments including pipes in compatible keys. Complete beginners and more advanced players are welcome. There may be some opportunity to play together as an ensemble with all combinations, but different workshops will address different musical things.

Workshops will be given using säckpipa in E/A.

The Tutor

Olle Gällmo is ‘riksspelman’ on Swedish bagpipes and well known for his work in playing and promoting the instrument, in Sweden and abroad. His comprehensive web site is a great resource and source of inspiration to Säckpipa players all over the world.
