Join dance teacher and caller Georgia Delve for another weekend exploring the Regency period through dance. She will be looking at the evolving fashions of social dancing through the Georgian period, culminating in the iconic Regency era. Halsway is excited to offer this weekend masterclass of steps, patterns, music and manners, not forgetting that all-important ballroom etiquette. With a mixture of country dances, cotillions, quadrilles and even some scandalous couple waltzing, it’s sure to be a weekend to enjoy.
Who is it for?
The Halsway Regency Assembly is a course aimed for all levels of dancer, and will be tailored to the abilities of the attendees. Costume of the period is welcome and encouraged, especially for the evening assemblies, but not essential.
The Team
Georgia Delve is a professionally trained dancer, ballet teacher, and historical dance caller, specialising in the social country dances of the Regency and wider Georgian periods. She has danced on historical projects for TV and film, and choreographed for stage productions in the UK and abroad. Georgia is passionate about keeping historical dance alive and accessible for everyone. She aims to make her teaching enjoyable, informative, and tailored to the abilities of the dancers present.
The Warleggan Village Band (Richard Heacock, Matthew Coatsworth and Chris Green) was first convened in 2014 to play for the dance sequences in BBC TV’s “Poldark” and has since been a regular favourite at Halsway Manor for “Dances of Poldark” weekends. With further appearances in the hugely successful Netflix series “Bridgerton”, the band is renowned for its exceptionally inventive playing of English country dance music from Playford to Regency times, bringing joy and energy to dancers and listeners alike. They are much in demand for Regency dances throughout the UK.
Matthew Coatsworth (violin, concertina) played in Boldwood for many years and researched and published the four Boldwood Dancing Master tune books. He also plays in Oxford Sinfonia and with Oxford harpist Steph West.
Chris Green (guitar, piano) is a regular musician at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre. He also tours as a solo artist, and as one half of GreenMatthews with his partner Sophie Matthews.
Richard Heacock (violin) also played in Boldwood, producing their first CD ‘Feet, Don’t Fail Me Now.’ He now plays at European maritime festivals with The Sea Band and is a regular musician at Halsway.
