Term1: Stogursey

Over the course of this Autumn term, pupils at Stogursey primary school have been working with writer Alice Maddicott, artist Harriet Popham and filmmaker Jason King to create exciting new work inspired by the past, present and future of their community.

After many weeks their brilliant work is ready to be showcased in a celebration event:

Our Somerset Stories; A Celebration at Stogursey Primary School
Thursday 5 December 2019, 3.45pm
Stogursey Church of England Primary School and Pre School, Tower Hill, Stogursey, Bridgwater, TA5 1PRn

Join artists, teachers and of course the pupils themselves for the grand launch of an exhibition of their art and writing. There will be a screening of a film created by the children, as well as performances of magical new folk traditions to celebrate the future hopes of their village. Come and enjoy the children’s creations – and be inspired yourself!

The children have researched and learned about their village in a number of exciting ways. They have hosted a tea party at the school for older residents to pass on their stories, and taken a trip deep into the woods of the Quantocks, to listen to a storyteller and gain inspiration. Writing and art workshops for local adults have also fed into the project. From new folktales involving the notorious Stogursey pixies, to poems, imaginary future villages, new folk traditions and brilliant art work, Stogursey’s ‘Somerset Story’ is fascinating and vibrant!
