The Violin making workshops are extremely popular at Halsway Manor, with many of the participants coming back year after year. The workshop gives maximum continuous time at the workbench supported by Neville Gardner, who has been teaching violin making for the last sixteen years. He is joined by Corrie Schrijver. The group size is necessarily small to ensure that each tutor can give participants plenty of patient and knowledgeable support.
Course starts 2pm Monday, and ends after lunch on Friday.
COVID-19 Note: Following the cancellation of the Violin Making Week in September, we are pleased to have found an alternative date for the course to run. There is also the option to stay on for the Violin Making weekend should you wish to make up for lost time… Click here for Halsway’s COVID-19 Guidance for your visit.
Who’s it For?
This course is for all levels of ability and beginners are very welcome. As well as the violin family, support can also be given for making a rebec (an ancient ancestor of the violin). The class size is limited so that participants have plenty of support from the two tutors. Before enrolling please contact Neville Gardner – Neville@nevillejgardner.co.uk – to discuss the suitability of the course for your needs.
Neville Gardner was a University Lecturer and has been teaching violin making for twenty years.
Corrie Schrijver graduated from the Welsh School of Violin Making, with Merit in 1980. Since then she has worked at various workshops, making and restoring for professional players.
