(and other 18th century tunes)
Do you ever buy a tune book hoping to add your repertoire with some lesser known but excellent tunes only to experience disappointment? This was certainly Paul Hutchinson’s experience until three very rare books came into his possession, packed with musical gems… Paul will come to Halsway in June to delve into the 60 tunes contained in these books: ‘12 Fashionable Country Dances for the Year 1800’, ‘24 Country Dances for the Year 1796’ and ‘Cahusac’s Annual Collection of 24 Favourite Country Dances for the Year 1800’. Paul will share a variety of great tunes – of which ‘The Maniac’ is one of his current favourites.
Who’s it For?
This course is for all instruments and will be aimed at intermediate level and above so you will need to be able to read music.
Paul Hutchinson studied piano and church organ before being persuaded at the age of 17 to take up the accordion and form a ceilidh band. Since then he’s become one of the best-known and in demand players on the folk scene – in the UK and beyond – as one half of duo Belshazzar’s Feast, with trio Hoover the Dog, Pagoda Project (with Karen Wimhurst), and PLF. Paul is a regular tutor and musician at Halsway Manor, and the accordion tutor for EFDSS at Cecil Sharp House.
