We’re really excited to have invited Irene Watt and Graeme White to lead a weekend of Scots Song in glorious harmony.

They’ll be teaching a number of Scots Songs over the weekend – some will be traditional, and some contemporary, in English and Scots dialect. Everyone will learn the melodies and those that feel confident can learn harmonies to enrich the sound, and the weekend!

Whether you have experience of Scots Song already or not, this course will enhance your skills and offer some new repertoire. You’ll spend the majority of time working together in a large group with the tutors, with some opportunities to sing in smaller groups.

There’ll be sessions in the bar each evening, and instrumentalists are welcome to bring their instruments to add an extra element to proceedings.

Who is the course for?

This course is for singers of any experience – from complete beginners to those who consider themselves advanced. You don’t need to be able to read music, and if you struggle to learn by ear, some music can be provided during the course to assist you. You won’t need to prepare anything in advance to take part.

The Team

Irene Watt is an accomplished harpist and singer from North East Scotland. She is also a Composer, Musical Director, and Teacher.

Irene was born in the idyllic fishing village of Gardenstown (known affectionately to locals as “Gamrie”). She has always loved music and went on to study music, literature, and folklore achieving a PhD in Ethnomusicology.

She is a popular teacher in Scotland, as well as further afield, and has taught in the USA, the Middle East and Europe.

She brings her expertise in Scottish song, and her relaxed and fun approach offers options for those with different levels of confidence to progress.

Graham White sings, and plays bouzouki, harmonica and bodhran.
