Get set for Christmas! Create your very own Rudolf – for your garden, home or as a gift – in an intensive one-day workshop with Somerset willow sculptor Sophie Courtiour. This course is an ideal introduction to willow sculpture, but expect to work hard to get your reindeer finished!
As a guide, the reindeer you will make will measure approximately 30 inches high, 20 inches long and 14 inches wide. It is possible to reduce the size if, for example, you have confined space in which to transport your deer. To make a larger deer (like those pictured) please check out our Christmas Bounty willow workshop, which allows sufficient time to make a bigger reindeer, alongside other Christmas delights!
Who’s it For?
Suitable for beginners and intermediate makers.
Sarah Webb started her career as a willow artist at the age of seventeen as a basketmaking apprentice working with reknowned local basket maker Norman Studley. She fell in love with willow and basketry, and during the subsequent years continued to develop her skills to include sculpture, lantern making and coiled work which won second place for contemporary basketry at the International Pinolere Basketry Competition in 2008.
Whilst living in Berkshire her involvment with the Oxford Willow Man project saw her work develop to a grand scale. She now lives in back in Somerset where it all began, where she creates a wide selection of traditional and contemporary baskets and takes commissions for willow sculptures with an emphasis on quality and sustainability.
