Creative Communities 2017 Programme

Have you ever had the desire to write a song or develop your songwriting, or always wanted to write a novel or play, or create your own dance piece, design your own craft piece or new art work? Over the months of Jan, April, July and October Halsway Manor is excited to introduce a new series of community workshops. These are aimed at those who are new to the craft or who have created pieces but want to develop their skills and meet like minded people.

Each month will focus on a new art form with four Sunday workshops running from 10am until 5pm. Each day workshop runs as a stand-alone session but combines to form part of a series covering different elements each time. You can book in for one session or ideally for all four to complete the series. Alongside this we even have a separate programme of special evening events to showcase local creative artists to act as further inspiration and which are open to the general public.

July: The Dance Series

A workshop series for anyone who is interested in learning more about the craft of dance and in exploring the creation of dance pieces. The sessions are for dancers of all abilities, including complete beginners, with the focus being on devising, choreographing and experimenting rather than performing. The series is a chance to come and try your hand at working with dance as an art form and a creative tool.

“Dancing is a wonderful thing. Dancing is a kind of freedom. To dance without inhibition is the most liberating, nourishing, inspiring, vitalising experience.”

Session 1: Finding your own voice in Dance. What does dance mean personally, socially and culturally and how can you find a way of dancing on your own and with others that is empowering and enriching
Session 2: Narrative Dance – how can we use movement to tell stories, how can we speak to an audience without using words.
Session 3: Site Specific – how can we use the environment to create dance work? How can we choreograph dance work within a space in order to create an immersive experience for the audience.
Session 4: Fusion and Collaboration – how to use movement ideas from different dance styles and from your own improvisation to create choreography. How to choreograph with dancers from different backgrounds and how to work with a live musician.

Tutor: Hannah Moore

Hannah is a choreographer, theatre maker and caller. Her background is in ballet, social dance from around the world and physical theatre. She has trained at Circomedia studying contemporary circus and a year at Halsway Manor studying folk dance. Hannah has worked extensively as a movement director for youth, student and professional companies and has worked on productions ranging from Sondheim to Shakespeare, with contemporary dance companies such as Dream Again and vintage cabaret troupe The Flaming Feathers. Recent work includes The Ceilidh Circus – a dance party which moves seamlessly from ceilidh dance to circus performance and back again, weaving in story and song along the way, and creating Regency Dance Events.

Cost per session £45 or all four £150 pounds! 10am – 5pm with a roast lunch included!
