Once again we’re opening our doors to professional folk artists* at all stages of their careers wanting a place to write, rehearse, recharge, relax, and be creative. We’re offering full board – accommodation and all meals – from dinner on Monday evening until breakfast on Friday. You’ll be here alongside other artists so if you’re someone who likes to share ideas, experiences, advice and support, then this could be right up your street.
Booking is by application. We are limiting this opportunity to around 20-25 artists, and we’ll be asking for a financial contribution of £140 towards your place (subsidised by Halsway Manor).
Halsway Manor, set in beautiful West Somerset has a variety of resources, including the biggest folk library collection outside of London, large and small rehearsal spaces, and a lovely wood-panelled bar (with log fire, naturally). There’s direct footpath access from the Manor onto the Quantock Hills, the coast is 10 minutes’ drive away, and there are views to Exmoor from our door. Nearest mainline station is Taunton, from which there’s a regular bus service stopping an easy 5 minute walk from our door.
*By ‘professional folk artists’ we mean artists – musicians / singers / writers / dancers / theatre-makers etc – who use traditional material either directly or indirectly to inform their paid work. Applications from students / early-stage career artists are as welcome as those from established artists. Previous applicants and attendees are welcome to apply again, though we may take this into account when making our final decisions.
Applications for Halsway Manor’s Open House in 2025 are now open. Click here to apply.
Deadline for applications is Monday 14th October 2024.
Because 2025 is our Diamond Jubilee, we’ll be offering additional subsidised residency places throughout the year (up to 60 in total) so if you can’t make these dates, or aren’t successful, we may be able to offer you other opportunities later in the year.
