Sarah Webb – Make a Frame Basket
Sarah Webb is a highly skilled traditional and contemporary willow artist, who was originally apprenticed to a traditional Somerset basket maker. She is experienced in leading courses in a range of willow crafts, including sculpture as well as basketry.
Learn how to make a simple frame basket using willow grown in Somerset by Musgroves Willow. You will learn the techniques involved in producing beautiful, functional baskets, and leave with a completed work of your own. A warning; basketry is addictive! Sarah runs other courses at Halsway if you want to try more!
Fee: £65 to include tuition, tea/coffee and lunch. Please book in advance. Tools and materials are provided; please note a materials fee of £3.50 is payable to Sarah on the day.
Melanie Deegan – Wire and Resin Sculpture
Melanie has been a professional sculptor since 2008 and her work features in collections across the UK and beyond. From her studio at Contains Art in Watchet her work varies from small indoor pieces to large sculptures for the garden.
In this day workshop you’ll create your own small sculpture using Jesmonite, an acrylic resin which can be used to give an interesting variety textures. Begin with a wire frame – essentially the drawing process – and then build up layers layers to your piece.
Fee: £65 to include tuition, tea/coffee and lunch. Please book in advance. Tools and materials are provided; please note a materials fee of around £5 per student is payable to Mel on the day.
