We are delighted to to share an evening with two of Europe’s greatest exponents of the diatonic button accordion.

Anne Niepold is a familiar name to many at Halsway, having been a regular tutor on our DG Melodeon Weekend and European Music Weekend. This will be Riccardo Tesi‘s first visit to Halsway, and a rare chance to see him play in the UK. Both Anne and Ricardo are tutoring on a week long Melodeon Workshop for advanced/intermediate players.

Anne Niepold (Belgium) is an extraordinary accordionist and composer. She is also an enthusiastic and inspirational teacher with a great sense of fun!

Anne studied in the jazz department of the Royal Conservatory of Brussels and attended many courses and masterclasses. As a performer she is a true force of nature – brash, adventurous and phenomenally skilled, she takes the humble accordion in startling directions. Beside her solo projects, she performs with numerous arts companies at home and abroad, and has numerous recordings to her name.

“(Anne) shows us the right way, that of intelligence, respect, emotion and heart. Run quickly listen to her and see her in concert!”
Richard Galliano, Accordionist

Riccardo Tesi (Italy) internationally acclaimed accordion player and composer, is  rated as one of the most daring and authoritative musicians in the European world music scene.

His style is easily recognizable, allowing his diatonic accordeon to speak both an archaic and modern language, widening the vocabulary and the technique of an instrument for a long time preserved as part of a traditional heritage. A brilliantly outdated choice that places Tesi, thanks to his lyrical and virtuoso skills, among those who have brought the accordeon and all the instruments alike back to their dignity all over the world.

Over his thirty five year career, Riccardo has collaborated with world music artists such as Elena Ledda, Justin Vali, Kepa Junkera, John Kirkpatrick and Patrick Vaillant, jazz musicians  Gianluigi Trovesi and Gabriele Mirabassi, and  great songwriters as Ivano Fossati, Fabrizio De Andrè and Gian Maria Testa.

Leader of Banditaliana , one of the most renowned Italian groups on the world music international scene, and member of Samurai, all stars quintet  of european accordeon players, he has played in the most important jazz & folk festivals all over Europe, Australia, Canada and Japan.

He has recorded over 24 albums and composed music for film and theatre.
