This course has been cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. We will provisionally transfer exiting bookings to our May 2022 event (check back for details). Please contact us to transfer to an alternative event, or to arrange a refund. You may also be interested in our Contra Weekend in June!
Our much loved annual American Contra Dance Week is hosted by Meg Winters. Our team this Spring pairs caller Carol Ormand from the States, with the UK’s top contra band, English Contra Dance Band. There will be dance and music workshops in the mornings, afternoons free for you to explore this lovely area, and dances every evening. Priority booking is given to those who were booked on last year’s event, cancelled due to COVID-19. Please contact us if you haven’t already done so, to rearrange your booking!
Who’s it For?
Dancers of all levels of experience are welcome.
“This has been the best American contra week I’ve attended, very enjoyable, excellent dancing and great company. Great to learn from Americans, and Meg is a wonderful host.” Participant
The Team
Meg Winters is a familiar face at Halsway Manor, and the perfect, friendly and knowledgeable host to make sure you get the best from your break at Halsway!
Carol Ormand has been calling traditional contra and square dances since the Spring of 1990, and regularly calls at dances, weekends, and festivals all over the United States and abroad.
The English Contra Dance Band (Linda Game – fiddle, Gareth Kiddier – piano) is a two piece band, combining backgrounds in Traditional English and Rock(!) music to become one of the UK’s most in-demand purveyors of American-style high energy contra dance music. As a dancer recently said, “How can two people make so much noise!”. They’ve performed at most of the major UK Festivals – including Sidmouth, Chippenham, and Towersey – and have played international dates in Denmark and America’s East Coast.
