An enjoyable, full-on, fun packed workshop week for the more confident nyckelharpa player. This mid-week course is designed as the next progression for learners that have worked their way through beginners and intermediate and are looking for something more advanced to get their teeth into. There will be a big emphasis on technique, exercises, studies and less on straight tune learning. For more information contact Vicki Swan 07721 519719.

This course is slightly longer than the weekends and will include some time for 1-to-1 learning, ensembles and even a quick trip up to the top of the Quantocks.

Who’s it For?

More advanced level players of the nyckelharpa! This course will not be repertoire based, but instead focus on further developing your technique and musicianship. Not sure? Contact Vicki to find out if this course is for you. There will be more emphasis through exercises and study on technique, and musicianship, and less emphasis on straight tune learning. There will also be general musicianship in the form of Eurythmics style musicianship and other musical games aimed at increasing skill and flexibility.

The Tutor

Vicki Swan is well known across the UK and beyond as one half of folk duo Vicki Swan & Jonny Dyer. Once known mainly for for their instrumental skills with Scottish smallpipes, accordion and Swedish nyckelharpa, they are now gaining recognition as impressive song arrangers and writers.

Vicki, who plays an assortment of less-than-mainstream instruments (Scottish smallpipes, Swedish nyckelharpa, English border pipes, Swedish bagpipes and more) is very much at the forefront of the current surge of interest in the Nyckelharpa in the UK. She plays as a member of the European Nyckelharpa Orchestra, runs Nyckelharpas at Halsway, founded the Nyckelharpa Project. She also teaches internationally at festivals and events.
