Are you an artist, a writer, a musician, a composer who yearns for a place to create with other artists far from the distractions of home or the noises of the city?
Halsway Manor has for many years been a place of inspiration and creativity with the days and nights filled with the sounds of folk music and dance, and has remained a place of sanctuary for many a aspiring artist. Now we wish to open the doors wider to enable artists to use the manor as a creative retreat where we hope new work will emerge to continue the legacy of those artists who have gone before…
The rugged moors and rolling hills of West Somerset’s countryside has stirred the emotions and fed the imagination of some of England’s most esteemed poets, and novelists. The magical landscape of the Quantock Hills and Exmoor and the picturesque ports and villages of Watchet and Porlock inspired Coleridge to produce such great works as ‘Kubla Khan’ and ‘The Rime of the Ancient Mariner’ and saw life-long friendships with fellow poets Wordsworth and Southey flourish. The writer R.D. Blackmoore created his romantic novel ‘Lorna Doone’ from his holidays to Exmoor in the mid 19th Century embedding his own characters into a scene that lay ready and waiting. Two centuries later as the world has taken time away in its fast paced life you will find those hills and rugged moors have remained untouched, a safe haven for creativity. It is in this magical spot that you will discover Halsway Manor a place of history, innovation and dreams.
Halsway offers a dedicated creative space for you to come together with other artists/friends to create new work.
“I teach internationally, and all over the UK. This is, by far, the best venue, staff and location I’ve ever had the pleasure to teach in / with. A rare gem” Karen Tweed
